Dealing with a Cancer Diagnosis

3 Reasons You May Need Residential Eating Disorder Treatment

by For Content

If you have an eating disorder, there are various options at your disposal when it comes to treatment. While some options may work better for one person, you may need a different solution. One option to consider is residential eating disorder treatment. While it is one of the most restrictive options for a period, it is best if any of the following factors apply to you. Discuss these factors with your doctor when determining your treatment plan.

1. Underlying Medical Conditions

There are numerous underlying medical conditions associated with various eating disorders. Some of these include the following:

  • Anemia
  • Low blood pressure
  • Heart issues
  • Kidney problems
  • Electrolyte imbalances
  • Bone loss

If your doctor has diagnosed you with any of these conditions, or you are showing signs or symptoms, you may need inpatient treatment. Many of these conditions, if left untreated, can worsen or even lead to death.

Inpatient treatment allows for more medical supervision than any outpatient program. Most programs have medical staff on site. These professionals will monitor and treat your medical conditions while you deal with your eating disorder.

2. Underlying Psychological Conditions

Along with causing underlying medical conditions, eating disorders often co-exist with other underlying psychological conditions. Some of these may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Addiction

When you have two or more diagnosed conditions, these are co-occurring disorders, formerly dual diagnoses. Inpatient treatment addresses all of your co-occurring disorders at the same time. Addressing them together allows you to identify and address the root of your problem, hopefully resulting in total and complete healing in all areas.

Addressing all of your issues at once can be overwhelming. The around-the-clock care provided by a residential program can provide the support that makes a difference.

3. Poor Support Systems

Support systems are essential when you are recovering from any disorder. It is crucial that you do not feel that you are in recovery alone. Unfortunately, not everyone has support systems to help them through recovery.

Residential treatment facilities can provide the support systems you need while in recovery. Those surrounding you understand how to help you. Many of the staff and other residents there have also experienced what you are going through. They have been where you are at that point in your treatment.

Do not endanger your life by not getting treatment or settling for other forms of therapy if residential treatment is what you need. Call and find out the admission procedures today.
