Dealing with a Cancer Diagnosis

Potential Warning Signs Of Uterine Fibroids

by For Content

Uterine fibroids are a condition that can affect people at various times in their lives. This condition involves growths that occur within the uterus. Some people develop just one of these growths, but having several of them is also common. Although uterine fibroids are not related to cancer and are typically not very serious, you'll always want to meet with your gynecologist to discuss this situation and learn what treatment options are available. There are a number of warning signs of uterine fibroids that can alert you to something not being right in this part of your body. Schedule an appointment if you become aware of these changes.

Uterine Pain

Some people who develop uterine fibroids are first aware that something might be wrong because of pain in their uterine area. Pain in this part of the body can sometimes be difficult to identify if you haven't previously experienced it. For example, you might mistake it for discomfort in your digestive system—something that can occur if you're constipated. Pain from uterine fibroids can vary in severity. Sometimes, it will feel as though there's an unusual amount of pressure in this region. If you've become aware of uterine pain, there's a chance that it could be from fibroids or potentially another uterine issue. Regardless of the cause, it's always advisable to see a gynecologist.

Fatigue

There are many different reasons why you might notice an unusual level of fatigue. While it's possible that your fatigue could simply be a result of some late nights or early mornings, prolonged fatigue can often be indicative of a health issue. Uterine fibroids often result in anemia, which is a decrease in your red blood cells. When you suffer from anemia, one of the common warning signs is fatigue. If you become aware that you're more tired than usual and have another symptom such as uterine pain, it's possible that you could have uterine fibroids.

Menstrual Changes

As is common with several conditions involving the uterus, uterine fibroids can cause noticeable changes in your menstruation habits. If your menstruation has a history of consistency but begins to change, this can often be a warning sign and a good reason to see a gynecologist. When uterine fibroids are present, you might bleed more heavily than usual. You may also experience an increase in the length of your periods.
